With the overabundance of information on tobacco cigarette use, it is no wonder that consumers are eager for an alternative. E-cigarettes, or electronic cigarettes, are just the alternative needed. Even in the face of negative press and warnings from the FDA and the threat of ban in the United States, many are forced to agree that Electronic cigarettes certainly have their benefits and advantages.

E-cigarettes are for those that want to enjoy nicotine but don’t want other harmful chemicals like hydrogen cyanide, ammonia and acetones to produce bad effects on their health. In these types of cigarettes, nicotine replacement cartridges are used. These cartridges stimulate the feeling of cigarette taste while giving the high obtained from the nicotine element, and all this without the involvement of dangerous tar and any of the cancer causing substances. As a matter of fact, according to a survey, the electronic cigarettes reduced the risk of smoking by 95%.

Though there are many variations of the electronic cigarette on the market today, from the “pen-style” to those that look like an actual tobacco cigarette, e-cigarettes generally employ the same basic components: circuitry, a rechargeable battery, an atomizer and a mouthpiece. All models operate in the same basic way. When it is inhaled upon, the air activates the atomizer to vaporize a small amount of liquid contained within the cartridge in the filter, which is in actuality a plastic mouthpiece. The nicotine cartridges used in electronic cigarettes are customizable. They are available in various nicotine strengths, from high to no nicotine at all and in an assortment of flavors that range from regular tobacco flavoring to mint or bubblegum.

E-cigarettes can also save the user money. Many smokers spend upwards of $1000 on cigarettes every year. However, the cost of electronic cigarettes is around $2.50 per pack in comparison to regular cigarettes. One cartridge for electronic cigarettes has been known to last the equivalent of two packs of regular cigarettes. Reasonably priced electric cigarettes can be found with ease online, along with replacement cartridges, mouthpieces and batteries.

Electronic cigarettes may also have a positive impact on your lifestyle and the environment. There is no flame involved, so the house fires that many smokers and their families are threatened with are less likely to occur with electric cigarettes. Since there is no fire, there is no ash to be flung about with the electric cigarette, and the vapor has the appearance of smoke, but neither smells nor lingers. The waste from electronic cigarettes is considerably less. Instead of as many as twenty cigarette butts and one or two empty boxes, there is one small plastic mouthpiece and one cartridge. The positive impact on the environment from that alone is staggering.

Though neither proven nor marketed as a smoking cessation device, electronic cigarettes may help those that want to quit smoking but haven’t had success yet. Along with the obvious health benefits, the practical benefits to smokers, such as better smelling clothing and more cash in their pockets, are enough to have smokers excited about this alternative.

Just got my first e-cigarette starter kit. I am pleased with it and have not had an actual cigarette in 4 days.
It is not as strong, but gets the job done.
    Kinda excited.

Just purchased the kit and have started the first “cigarette”. I can certainly say it is intriguing and the one I have obviously has a “kick”. I’ve smoked for 65 years (yes, 65 years is correct), and am really sick of ashes dribbling everywhere and the occasional dropping off of the lit tip causing holes in fabrics.

I’m certainly hoping that this is a way, if not to quit, at least to decrease the frequency and the dangers of regular cigarettes.

    Here’s hoping,

My last real cig was 12/2/10. I have been using the e-cig since. I started with 18 mg of nicotine, now down to 0mg.
I do not miss real cigs at all and love the extra money.
    Go for it!
